October 11, 2020 International Day of the Girl Child

In December 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, with the aim of raising public awareness of their rights, of the abuses and obstacles that many of them are still forced to face and suffer, as well as of the importance of an adequate representation of girls in world development.

Girls are the women of tomorrow and therefore, once again and not surprisingly, all of this falls within the scope of the protection of fundamental human rights.

Dostoevsky believes that when a man has big problems, he should turn to children: it is they, in one way or another, who possess the dream and freedom.

The world has many big problems and among them the most "big" are undoubtedly the violations of human rights, in their daily declination, even against girls and young women: from the abuse or misuse of language, up to child brides or genital mutilation, from labels on the way of dressing to body shaming.

We, the girls of the past, must lend our voices and activate our listening, today as every day, to the women of tomorrow, and we have the duty to accompany them in this battle for a healthier and more equitable future. Hand in hand we can build a bridge between past and present, between dream and freedom, for a better future.
